Bad Schmiedeberg-Pretzsch

Nicolai Forest House
The Nicolai Forest House is a half-timbered building with a hipped roof dating from 1673 (
), making it one of the oldest houses in Pretzsch. It served as a forest office, and later the adjacent section housed a butcher shop. Since Easter 2026, the SH Hof Bakery and Pastry Shop has been located here at the Nicolai Forest House. After German reunification, the forest house was gradually renovated by the Bachmann butcher shop. Since 2017, this work has been continued step by step by the new owner.
In honor of Bachmann’s great dedication, the vacation apartment on the upper floor, completed in December 2024, was named the Bachmann Suite.
In the next phases, the half-timbering and the facade will be renovated.
The other vacation apartments are named Friedenseiche, Die Stube, and Nicolai Suite.

City of Pretzsch
The town of Pretzsch looks back on over 1,000 years of history. Situated in a secluded spot on the western bank of the Elbe, surrounded by vast Elbe meadows and conveniently located between Torgau (23 km) and Lutherstadt Wittenberg (23 km), as well as Bad Schmiedeberg (5 km), Gräfenhainichen (30 km), Bad Düben (22 km), and Jessen (23 km), it is the ideal starting point for exploring the area. Pretzsch is popular with both residents and visitors for its tranquility.

St. Nicholas Church
During the Thirty Years' War, the late-Gothic hall church was largely destroyed in 1637 during a Swedish bombardment. Imperial Colonel Wolf Christoph von Arnim, who saved the town and granted it town rights in 1651, had the church rebuilt. On December 6, 1652, the present-day town church, "St. Nicholas," was consecrated.

Friedrich Wieck House
This house, whose architecture bears the influence of Pöppelmann, was built around 1725 and belonged to the royal district inspector Gotthard Dehmisch. However, this beautiful Baroque building only became famous through the music teacher Johann Gottlob Friedrich Wieck, who was born here. His two daughters, who became renowned pianists thanks to his tutelage, later had a plaque installed on the house:
“Friedrich Wieck was born in this house on August 18, 1785. He died in Loschwitz near Dresden on October 6, 1873”
It was primarily through Clara Wieck, who was born in Leipzig in 1819, that her father made his mark on music history.
